The IPsec suite uses a variety of protocols to establish secure connections, including the following:

• Authentication Header (AH): It provides data integrity and authentication.
• Encapsulating Security Protocol (ESP): It encrypts both the IP header and the payload of each packet. In addition, ESP adds its own header and a trailer to each data packet.
• Security Association (SA): An SA is a set of security parameters defining how two devices communicate securely.
